Comme des Garcons tribute to Wedding finery

photo: Macio Madeira

Rei Kawakubo’s Comme des Garcons Autumn/Winter collection was shown during Paris Fashion Week in March 2005. She has a mood for dark romance, and her collection was “Broken Brides”. Each model looked so sad to be getting married, with chalk white faces. The clothes were however graceful and filled with sweet melancholy. Cream satin pantsuits, ivory velvet bolero embellished with rose, and skirts long and ruched with bows down the front.

Christian Lacroix – Wedding dresses- Brides

I was reading the french news over the Internet today and one of the articles was on a fashion show happening in ‘Paris” . I followed the link to One Of the designers website; ” Christian Lacroix” . There I found few quotes by him on wedding dresses.

I nearly forgot !
The wedding dresses…
Since my first collection,
I have always created wedding dresses that hover somewhere between a pious image, Macarena of Seville
and the princesses from A thousand and One Nights !

I have even used a 19th century tradition of brides dressed in red or black. Whatever the style, the wedding dressmust be truly outstanding for an outstanding day. I like it to live several lives, classically grandiose for the religious ceremony, freed from the train or skirt for dancing.
From the Arlesian woman to
to the fairytaleshepherdess, in faille, piqué, taffeta, tulle, embroidery, lace, the list is inexhaustible and I certainly don’t count on exhausting it… “

Here is a link to his site “Christian Lacroix Brides” click on the >> All the season’s collection > then Brides.
Enjoy the show !

Wedding at the city club of San Francisco

As a wedding photographer, I take notice of all elements in a wedding and how they all flow together. In this case, the decor of the wedding cake (created by Have Your Cake) was a great example of attention to detail and echoed the interiors of The City Club, a beautifully preserved example of the popular 1930′s Art Deco style. As usual, there was tasteful buffet food, many heartfelt toasts and the dances… and a sweet song by the very young junior maid of honor with a wonderful voice. The wedding crowd was very fun and San Francisco like, hip and cool. It was easy to mingle with them.. ..

The last few shots were of a Yugoslavian dance led by the groom’s mom waving a napkin. Being from Austria, neighboring former Yugoslavia, this brought some warm memories of old Europe… a source of inspiration for my photojournalistic wedding photography.

Wedding at the city club of san francisco

wedding at the city club of san franciscoThen came my favorite part, photographing the whole wedding entourage while walking down the streets of San Francisco. Cars honked, heads turned, people smiled. “I love your wedding dress”, one little girl said.

The whole scene was like a movie set – even better, because it was real and unprompted. In order to capture San Francisco’s landscape with the uphill road, we crossed the streets a couple times. It was worth the trouble, resulting in one of the most loved San Francisco wedding photo.

We arrived at The City Club of San Francisco where the reception was held. This wedding venue presented me with several great opportunities for a perfect wedding photo of the couple: outside, in front of the large columns and the statue; inside, on the stairs with the famous fresco, Allegory of California, by Mexican artist Diego Rivera; and finally,One on the balcony with a view of the downtown landscape, including the Transamerica tower. Wedding at the Omni Hotel

san francisco wedding, Omni hotelSusan & Andre‘s wedding is one of my favorite wedding stories. Unlike many other weddings, which are limited to the scene of the wedding sites, we decided to incorporate the whole downtown atmosphere into the wedding photography. The whole wedding party and I met up at the Omni San Francisco Hotel – only three blocks away from the reception site. While waiting for the arrival of the bride, I used the time to take some casual portrait photos of her relatives. Then the bride arrived and stepped out of the car. She looked like a queen and all the by passers watched with admiration. In the hotel, the wedding couple didn’t’ waste any time and started the event with a drink, surprising the present people patronizing the adjoining bar. Soon gorgeous flowers arrived in a neat wooden crate, artistically arranged by the San Francisco florist Fleur’t. With flowers and glass in their hands, I documented the wedding party unobtrusively from the balcony above.
